Hey and sorry to bug you some more but i think you're paintings are really great, you seem to have really mastered the look and feel of paintings i previously only ever saw in traditional mediums! I am really curious about your process: do you use a lot of layers for light and shade or do you just paint directly? Do you start with local colors and linework or in values? I must know! :P Thanks in advance even if you don't have the time to reply, just looking at your work and analyzing it has already helped me :)

Thank you man for your reply. That`s very cool, when your favourite artist answer you.
Never used dual brushes before.  Want try it immediately! :)
My speedpaint using your tips: Untitled-9
Really great technique. I used only texture brushes before, none dual. And this is not so convenient.
But now.... :)
I always go to your gallery and study how you textured everything. I understand that you have used only round brush, but I couldn`t draw smth similar.
Always so much details.
Right Lightness in you work. Do you always paint in color or in b\w?
Thank you very much again. I feel, I have great tool and everything in my hands :D

Thanks!

Not sure how much I can help but, I mainly use my standard photoshop chalk brush for textures, (all comes with photoshop)
tho I don't think photoshop has one already made so u have to find the right texture to set to dual brush.

anyway here is the brush, also put in the non textured aswell as I use it often:
www.filedropper.com/onetexture…

As for tips about textures hm,

I try to get variation with it, so vary the size between large and small to get different effect,
combine that with light and soft pressure, since the brush has its dual brush set to overlay, so the lighter the touch
the more texture it will have.

There are many options aswell there u can set the dual brush for different feels and effects, just gotta try them
and see if u can figure out a good use of it!

Having some reference of lets say walls/rocks and such also helps giving u clues how to give it variation.

Did also some unsharp mask at the end so the texture really stands out, play around with the options to see what
gives best effect.

Also I created a brush that just add a few select speckles or maybe u can call them dots, here and there, so  I carefully just stroke the brush over areas
to give textures more variation since usually when I paint, I don't really get these small dot shapes and they make the texture abit better that way.

But really its just a lot of time spent rendering it, u can look at artist like Ruan Jia and get a good feel on how to do nice textures!
I really like how he leaves areas abit "chunky" he makes different values on the same surface not blend fully as u can see on some of
the grey walls and floors:
orig01.deviantart.net/37ac/f/2…

Writing this abit late, so might have some bad spelling :P

Ah saw your message a bit late sorry! here is a different link I hope it works!
Also I added some random new texture brushes I made, they are all from default photoshop, but yeh
the one named "onechalktexturebrush"  is pretty much the one I have always used for most of my stuff.

This has the qualities of an oil painting! How did you do it?
Reply
:iconunidcolor:
UnidColor Featured By Owner Feb 16, 2016
Thanks! not exactly sure! but going in and caring for all the shapes and brush marks helps, if I end up with an "artifact". Lets say the round brush creates
generic round shapes from using it, I would keep adding and modifying that stroke to give it a more designed shape rather a shape from the brush.

But yeh took quite some time painting it as there is no photos and such, mainly using a default photoshop chalk brush with a texture that comes with photoshop,
so that might also be part of it.

Thank you for the detailed explanation!
I find the part about modifying each stroke to make it a more designed shape very enlightening.
Will keep that in mind when I paint in the future.
